Watching Over Me
Ash Firebrace

MEET THE ARTIST

Watching Over Me is an expression of my connection to Country, and as a way to cope with anxiety. I seek solace in the Yarra Ranges, walking through the bush and sitting by the Yarra River to bring calm and peace to my mind. For me, escaping the country and away from the busy city is essential to reset and heal.

Wide open spaces offer new perspective, helping to connect with my emotions and find a sense of calm.

In this artwork, the gum leaves symbolises the bush I walk through to find relief, while the blue represents the river flowing through the Yarra Ranges. Bunjil the eagle, our Creator, also symbolises the strength, peace, leadership and focus that come from overcoming the struggles in our journey through life.

Ash Firebrace is a proud Wurundjeri person.
